A. J. Bermudez is an award-winning writer and filmmaker based in New York and Los Angeles. Her first book, Stories No One Hopes Are About Them, won the 2022 Iowa Short Fiction Award and was a 2023 Lambda Award Finalist. Her screenwriting has been honored at Sundance, SXSW, the LGBTQ+ Toronto Film Festival, and elsewhere. She’s a recipient of the Page Award, the Pushcart Prize, the Diverse Voices Award, the Alpine Fellowship Writing Prize, and the Steinbeck Fellowship. In addition to writing and filmmaking, Bermudez is also a former boxer and EMT, a university professor, and super good at Scrabble.
