Tess Callahan’s novel-in-progress—set in China during the 1989 pro-democracy uprising—-is an expatriate love story shaped by political upheaval and impossible choices. As a certified meditation teacher, she explores the intersection of contemplative practice and creative work. She is the author of April & Oliver and Dawnland, and her work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, AGNI, Narrative Magazine, The Common, and on NPR. A Bennington Writing Seminars graduate, Tess hosts the literary podcast and Substack “Writers at the Well” and delivered the TEDx talk “The Love Affair Between Creativity & Constraint.” She divides her time between New Jersey and Cape Cod.
