About
Before Electric Literature relaunched as an online publisher with the first issue of Recommended Reading in 2012, we published six issues of a quarterly(ish) anthology. Available in all formats, including ebook and print, it pioneered a new publishing model that is standard practice today. Now, for the first time in years, PDF editions of those anthologies are available for purchase. In our second issue, published in October 2009, National Book Award and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Colson Whitehead charts the rise to fame of a truth-telling comedian. Stephen O’Connor transports us to a cabin in the woods, where a young woman attempting to finish her dissertation in solitude becomes increasingly convinced she’s not alone. Pasha Malla follows a young writer as he explores how tragedy influences art—and how life falls short of it. Marisa Silver tells the tale of three sisters who perceive the truth about their parents through the eyes of some unexpected visitors. Finally, Man Booker winner and National Book Award finalist Lydia Davis’s solitary narrator acutely details the behavior of three cows who live in a pasture just across the road. Cover art by the Clayton Brothers: Rob Clayton and Christian Clayton. After purchase, you will receive an email with a link to download the PDF file.
