Colleen Kinder is the editor of Letter to a Stranger: Essays to the Ones Who Haunt Us and co-founder of Off Assignment, the nonprofit magazine where the “Letter to a Stranger” column originated. Her work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New Republic, National Geographic Traveler, Salon.com, AFAR, A Public Space, Creative Nonfiction, Los Angeles Review of Books, New York Times “Modern Love,” and Best American Travel Writing 2013. She has taught writing at Yale University, Semester at Sea, and the Banff Literary Journalism Program. A former Fulbright, Yaddo, and MacDowell fellow, Kinder received her MFA at the University of Iowa.
